The NTU School of Art, Design and Media (NTU, ADM) is Singapore’s first comprehensive art school. ADM offers a studio-based professional education in a comprehensive university setting, providing students with the knowledge and skills required to develop and produce groundbreaking artworks and related scholarly activity.
Beyond the BFA programme, ADM also has a growing community of postgraduate researchers and practitioners engaged in a range of MA and PhD courses.
In 2023, ADM will celebrate its 18th anniversary since its founding in 2005. Despite being a relatively young institution, the school has accumulated a large pool of graduates that have contributed to and driven our local creative industry to greater heights.

Textured hair, referring to hair that has a curly, coiled or kinky texture, has been identified as a pressing issue in Singapore due to various factors such as the lack of representation, resources and discrimination. Textured hair is often overlooked in mainstream media and beauty industries, leading to a lack of understanding and acceptance of its unique characteristics.
Additionally, resources such as haircare products and services catering to textured hair are limited, making it difficult for individuals with textured hair to properly care for their hair. Discrimination towards textured hair has also been reported, with individuals facing prejudice in workplaces and schools. These issues highlight the need for greater awareness, education and inclusivity towards textured hair in Singapore.
Textures of being is a project that encourages more ‘hair inclusive’ conversations. It hopes to educate the general masses about the daily struggles of Singaporeans with textured hair.
It is also an opportunity to showcase the stories and experiences of people living in a straight hair world like Singapore. And most importantly creating a sense of appreciation for the textured hair community amongst our straight hair counterparts.
